South Peruvian Desert

Our last week was spent in the southern Peruvian desert, in places like Nasca, Ica, the Huacachina oasis, Pisco and Paracas.  The towns down here are ugly and the climate is dry.  It almost never rains.  Some of the landscapes are stunning.  Most of the cities looked bombed out; unfinished buildings and crumbled walls (from earthquakes).  We rode through these towns in beat-up taxis and old buses.  Most times I only take photos of the beautiful things, instead of looking for diamonds in the town’s rough edges.  It’s something I need to work on.
